In the beginning it is a lump of clay, easily manipulated, pushed, pulled, prodded, but soon the shape emerges. It’s the tactile aspect I love, the wet, slurry of clay in between my fingers. It is reminiscent of the warm mud between my toes as a child. Amazingly though, this mud becomes a functional object, used by someone, somewhere, who will see my “D” that I so carefully stamped into the bottom of my newly created piece of art.
